Fill engine cavities

I'm removing the box that housed the AFM, and by that exposing the upper part of the engine. To make it easier to keep clean I'm thinking of filling the cavities marked in red with something. Steel epoxy?

Or would this be a bad idea because of heat?

I cleaned out mine yesterday - years and years of accumulated crud was in there - I am pretty sure that can't help the cooling so I agree - leave them alone.

If you're worried about it why not consider some type of durable screening. That will keep small stones (and up) from collecting in there. Wouldn't be in a hurry to fill it. Even full of crud I can't imagine any real ill effects....

I doubt it has anything to do with cooling, probably the cavities are there to save weight.  I sorta like the idea of filling them in.  Epoxy would certainly work, though it would be a pain if you changed your mine. Bondo is the only other thing I can think of offhand and seems like that would crack over time.

If you really want to fill them in, I would suggest using one of those foam caulks like Great Stuff.  Shoot it in, shape it, and then seal the surface by brushing on some polyester resin.  I wouldn't use epoxy because it tends to soften at high temperatures.

I think I'm going to your suggestion Mighty Gryphon. Cheap and easy to apply and no problem to remove if needed.

FOAM chalks are highly flammable  caution with use   good luck  also bondo will not take the heat as far as i know

Every 80K miles take stuff off top of engine, squirt some cleaner, brush, use rags, squirt some more cleaner, wipe clean possible, put back together, go to go another 80K.
