I recently purchased a K1100 LT in fairly nice condition. The previous owners have done a good job keeping her up to date with services and needed attention. However she does have a leaky rear brake master cylinder and has been leaking for some time. I recently took the master cylinder apart and cleaned it up a bit removing all the old and dried brake fluid and attempted to revitalize the rubber seals in hot water (old school trick). It cleaned up nicely. However, it still leaks, clearly the rubber seals need to be replaced.
So here is my question, should I just pony up the $250 and buy a new master cylinder or is it worth purchasing a $90 rebuild kit? Experiences welcome.
Or purhaps someone has a new one sitting in there garage waiting for a new owner?
