The fourth fourth final drive bolt
« on: June 22, 2016, 05:55:36 AM »
Has anyone figured out how to get a torque wrench on the upper right FD / swing arm bolt? I can't get a hex socket on it even with a 3 in wobble extension. Been hand tightening with the stock Allen key for 15 years -- if anyone has an alternative I'd be grateful.

Thanks --

If what you've been doing has worked for 15 years, keep doing it. Some people have a good internal sense of torque values and you're one of them. I don't recall having a problem when using a ¼ inch-drive metric torque wrench and hex socket with the wheel off.

It's not that the hex key doesn't work, it's that it's too much work. 1/4 turn at a time is all there's clearance for and it's annoying.

I'll see if I can find a hex socket that size for my 1/4 drive torque wrench -- I have a set of 1/4 drive hex sockets, but it didn't include one that big. BTW that's a lot of torque for a 1/4 in torque wrench.

I use a ¼ to ⅜ drive adaptor on my torque wrench. The torque value for those bolts is within the settings on my wrench and when I'm tightening them I usually have nothing else to do anyway, so they can take their time.

OK, thanks, didn't think of using an adapter, I'll give it a try.
