The make and model of the GPS? The size of its fuse? Does the GPS work in a car? Does the socket charge the cell phone with no problem?

I had this one installed on my K100LT when I bought it but i've since then taken it off. Is this what you mean you're wanting to do?

Where you've described is a non-standard location for the auxillary plug, so maybe the PO wired it backwards.  A vest wouldn't care about polarity, but your USB devices do care.  Make sure the centre pin is positive and the outer ring negative (ground).
