ABS lights

I can hear you groaning ... not another ABS light question!

So the fault I have is that the central ABS light in the dash glows for a few seconds when I use the front brake. A few days ago it wouldn't go out after I set off to work but did after a few miles and stayed off for a few days.
"Faulty brake light switch" I thought. "I'll get round to that in a few days."
All was ok for a while but now the lamp glows when I use the front brake, just for a couple of seconds, then goes out. It does this each time I brake.
Any ideas? The faulty switch theory?

there are 2 abs lights... im trying to figger out center abs light because there aints one...

does your center abs light flash steady or does it alternate with its self...

The idiot light you are speaking of is the bulb monitor unit warning light.  If you or a previous owner installed LED's in the instrument cluster it is quite normal for that light to flicker when the brakes are applied.  It may also flicker if the brake light is different than the 1157 bulb that is supposed to go in there.

My BMU idiot light flashes every time I use the brakes to remind me that I am an idiot with LED's in the cluster. 

I have learned to live with that knowledge and accept the fact that I am an idiot.  A side benefit is that my wife finds it good that I agree with her.

Laitch - groan, yes, can't find a similar problem here though
Johnny - it's the one with the warning triangle
Mighty Gryphon - no LEDs in my cluster

I have now discovered that the brake light does not work when the front brake is applied, but it does with the rear. I expect it will be the switch so will investigate that but I'm puzzled why the light comes on when I brake and then slowly dims to off. Why doesn't it just stay on ?

Johnny, you f-ing a-hole, I can read but I clicked the second link - is that ok you f-ing a-hole?

Problem solved I believe. I discovered a horrendous repair to the front brake switch wiring which is now soldered until I get a new switch. Lights now ok.

Switch now fitted and works fine. It has three wires so you will need to work out which two to use to copy the original switch. The wires are shorter than the original switch but plenty long enough. I de-pinned the original connector and re-used it.
