Fenda Extenda for 90c New upgrade $4.50
« on: February 22, 2016, 12:38:46 PM »
Don't pay through the nose for an Extenda Fenda. Mine cost me 90c, made a card board template of the desired shape and size. Using the template I cut out the mudflap out of a 90c black plastic bucket, attach the mudflap with 3 X 4mm aluminium mushroom head Allen screws. Make sure the screws clear the tyre. You don't have to use black, buckets come in various colours. The reason for using a bucket is it is already curved, but you could use anything flat and use a Heat Gun to form it

Brilliant!!!  I need something for my RS, but there is nothing available.  Been trying to come up with a nice home brew solution but couldn't think of anything I liked.  Now I can hang on to the brick instead of trading up to an Enfield Classic.   :2thumbup:

I overestimated the cost you can probably get 4-5 out of a bucket so comes out at under 23c each. Wayne they are very easy to make, just make them out of cardboard first once you have the shape right on one half, fold the cardboard down the centre line to get the shape equal on both sides. Tape the cardboard on to see if it's right you can make as many cardboard ones as you like. When you have the right one transfer the shape to a bucket and cut it out. I will post better pictures as I am going to make a longer one.

Bought my bucket today.  Had to pay $3.97 to get a black one.  Oh well, still about 25 bucks less than Extenda.

Yeah, the price "pails" in comparison to the Extenda Fenda.

In my opinion it's a pour substitute.

Gryph trust you to buy a high class bucket, buckets must be the only thing that we get cheaper than the US. I might start a bucket export business. You should be able to get 5 Extendas out of your bucket, and you have 3 bikes so you now have 2 to sell or as spares. So in theory at $25.00 ea  that's $150.00 worth, and you still have the bottom bit as a dog dish. A dog dish should be worth at least $3.97 so you now have $150.00 worth of Extendas for nothing.

I'll bet you get Kangaroo skin cheaper, Martin, and that is some mighty fancy financial footwork there, too! Count your change, Gryph, if your bucket-importing from OZ.

Since I had to pay the big bucks for my bucket(it's really a waste can)  I am going to get double duty by cutting it off at a point where it will hold about 1 1/2 gallons and use it for draining oil and anti-freeze.  I think I might be able to leave a flap on the side that can act as a deflector to keep fork oil off the rotors.

There is a K in Nantucket
Who's owner can't find a black bucket
In a fit of bad taste
Bought a basket for waste
and as for the pail, he said f*** it.

That's well done. I wonder if a flare pattern at the lower edge of one of these could then be heated and gracefully bent slightly rearward for an old-school look without buckling the portion above it. Looks like I'm going bucket shopping.

Thanks for bringing this innovation to light here, Martin.

Nicely done Gryph , when I did mine you could get the aluminium bolts in various colours if you ever want to colour match. I will be making another longer one. Laitch you can get your buckets in various colours from the newly formed Ozzie company, Buckets Are Us.

After fitting my repainted and chip proofed belly pan, I decided to make a longer mudflap. It only took about 30 min, I used the Mk 1 version as a template and readjusted the taper to make it longer. I might have got a bit carried away with the length, but I can always trim it later.

Laitch as you wondered, here it is a flared lower lip. You got me wondering so I cut out another one. Clamped a chromed breaker bar in the vice, heated it up with a hot air gun a rolled it over the breaker bar. Used welding gloves and it rolled really easy, by varying the diameter of the former you can achieve any radius you like. thanks for the idea.

I'm busy thinking of things that people can do for me right now, Martin, so how about a photo of this objet d'art taken directly from the side with it in a vertical orientation. Maybe size it smaller, too, so it doesn't look like the fin of an orca.
