That red color is pretty hot looking. I like the look of the 1100 fairing so much I converted my 100 RS to the 1100RS. I agree that these bikes have a much cleaner, more solid look to them than newer touring machines. Something about mine makes we think of a locomotive whenever I pass it in the garage; it just looks powerful sitting there. I don't get that same impression from modern bikes.
Speaking of power, I am sure you will get to appreciate the way the K delivers through it's power band. With a few thousand miles on her, you will finally become comfortable with the weight, handling and power band. Then you'll really begin to understand why these bikes have such hard core devotees.
BTW, did you find your bike on Craig's List? I know I saw one that looked like yours last summer for sale in the Southern Tier in Waverly or Tioga or somewhere around there.
