Steering Head Bearings & Races
« on: September 24, 2015, 10:28:04 PM »
I'm looking at replacing the steering head bearings on my K75RT.  I've found an aftermarket source for the bearings from All Balls, #22-1024-A, OEM Cycles.  It shows the correct application for the RT.  Has anyone used this set and do the races (which also need replacing) come with the bearings or are they ordered separately and what source?

Thanks.

People have used those which you've mentioned.  IIRC the "under bearing cup seals" provided in their "kit" are not correct and apparently OEM seals are the only alternative.

I wrote this article here and documented my experience with bearings available from NAPA Auto parts.

Enter a search and you'll find the info on the "All Balls" alternative.

Thanks for the reply.  I found the OEM bearings with the races at Max's BMW, they still show the superseded part #.  Might go that route, more $ but less worry about fit when installing.  I'll also get the seals, when I make the order.

I'd found the video by Chris Harris, you're right about the "colorful language" but he does know his stuff and does a good job of making it straight forward.  I like how he doesn't remove the fairing to do the job.  I'd contacted a local BMW shop who said they'd have to do that to do the bearings, after watching Chris' video I thought "why?"
