K100GS
« on: August 26, 2015, 03:26:10 PM »
I'll move this over here from
the intro section.... Story so far is i bought a cosmetically tired 1989 K100LT 3 weeks ago, stripped the fairing and all excess plastic and set about making a bike more suitable for the roads here in the highlands of scotland.... mainly twisty dual track and single track with a few forest gravel roads thrown in :)

A good 100 mile run today, all good.. A few issues to deal with,  led indicators are not working with std relay, maybe need a ballast reistor or a change of relay.. Also need to sort out a proper speedo

Putting in some miles in its semi finished form, i plan to use it as is until winter kicks in to make sure i dont need anything else cut or welded. My daily commute to work and back is 100 miles of mixed country roads, the K just takes it all in its long legged stride :)

You have done a great job with your bike in a short time period. Impressive! Where did you source the exhaust can, seat, and speedo unit? Your photography is fantastic, too!

Thanks, its still in scruffy shakedown mode.. Lots of little jobs to do but still fine for putting the miles in, which is what id aimed for.

Seat was an ebay find, as was the can.. ill dig out the links. The speedo is a cheap £5 /$7.50 bicycle one that will do for now,. I plan to fit an acewell or similar when i get som cash together :)

That can has great tone; like the collector kick-up,been looking for one those that aren't so pricey here in USA. I am pursuing the GS/scrambler style & will try to post some pics! Thanks for sharing.

Any luck finding anything? All I can find is BSK Speedworks 4 to 1 and that's well out of my price range.

No joy, Red, other than Bumly's DIY. Can't see the BSK unit at their price. Maybe a red-neck muffler shop could make me one. I am ready to hack-saw an open pipe. Couldn't be louder than an open Austin Racing can on an S1000RR.

BSK unit is pricey , but definately the best way to tidy up the exhaust on a K.. The short race can mounts straight onto it .. About $300 all in

I buy them bit by bit via ebay, takes about 5 years to gather all the big bits, sometimes i get lucky and get a basket. I built this Stroker Scout from a basket, started in 2006 and had it on the road in 2011
