Tach was working now not!
« on: June 24, 2011, 10:05:20 PM »
I took apart the instrument pod and had to replace the gear indicator lcd. After I put it all back together, my tach does not work anymore. I had to remove the tach needle and face to get to the lcd. Any ideas as to why?

Well it's hard to say.
Possibly something happened to the meter movement when you put the needle back on.
Or there is something electrical that's not making connection now.
Is everything else working? all the lamps and indicators, and speedometer?

You should've asked this question ahead of time.  It's possible to replace the GPI without removing the tach faceplate - you can do it from behind.

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Doh! Everything else is working ok even the new gear indicator. I noticed when I took it apart again last night that the needle seems to add too much weight to the shaft of the Tach and presses the rear of the assembly into its housing casuing it to bind. Is the needle weighted?

Well, It is definitely mechanical. When I hold the cluster straight up and down attached to the bike and the bike is running tach works no problem, then add the tilt to the pod and it seizes up.
Anybody have a used cluster for sale?
