Oil filter bolts hogged out.
« on: July 02, 2015, 05:39:39 PM »
So the oil filter allan heads are stripped out. About to cut the heads off and order bolts. What is a better idea.... I'm sure someone has dealt with this before.

Well, to be able to work on it the easiest, remove the entire pan bottom then you can work on a bench without laying under the bike.
You could also drill them out with left handed drill bits/extractors, but yes you will need some new ones.
A good local hardware store may have some without them having to come from BMW.
M6x20mm is the screw size for the filter cover, the pan mounting screws are M6x25mm if you want to take one of them to the local store for sizing....

I like that idea chaos. Gonna try it. If all else fails I'll drop the pan and go from there. Is there a gasket or is it goo I need to use for it?

No gasket.
I used RTV blue the last time I had one off.

RTV is a necessity. Blue or Black from Permatex both work well  :2thumbup:

Had some success with removing rounded allen bolts by hammering in slightly bigger torx bit.

Okay so I won't the battle. Replaced the hardware as well. Before I go and dump m oil in how full should the sight glass after the bike has been run up to operating temperature and then shut off? Should it be full or at the dot in the sight glass.

This is the way I've done it in the past. After cutting a slot with a Dremel I use a big flat head and remove, then replace with new. The last K I bought had them overtightened.
