Good or Bad Oil/Water Pump Shaft?
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:31:27 AM »
Could someone with more experience than I with these shafts take a look at my pictures and tell me if I need the shaft replaced. To me it looks OK where the seals are bearing but I don't know for sure. From the IBMWR site (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/water-oil-pump-rebuild.shtml) their pictures look every bit as bad as mine but they are saying the shaft is still good  :dunno. If I can help it I would prefer not to spend $204 for a new shaft, but I would also prefer not to have to tear it apart again in a couple of thousand miles by being a cheap SOB.

Oh, and the bike is a 1996 K1100RS ~62,000 miles.

Thanks for any and all advice,

Milton S.

+1 vote to replace.
Don't think you can polish that one up enough to eliminate any risk of tearing/scaring a new seal on assembly.

Wisdom has it that you can fill the voids in the shaft with Cyanoacrylate glue and make it smooth again.  Read this

Hiya J O,

I'm going to be riding Northern Cali and Oregon July 21 through August 1. You still buzzing around the west coast?

Sounds yummy. I've a dog and a couple of cats you could milk too, if you need it.

You'll be missing riding Cali.

Congratulations on the move. Probably be nice to have a place you can call home again and come back to every night. Take care and ride safe.

Yeah, I'll post a ride report when I'm done.
