Foaming transmission oil

I checked the transmission oil level on my K75 today, and the stick came up with some really frothy oil. I'll change the oil I suppose, but how worried should I be otherwise?

greetings...

i have heard abouts folks removing the oil fill cap and pizzing in the engine oil which causes frothing... butts i never heard of pizzing the the gear box... butts if they did it will most certainly froth...

There's a breather vent on the top of the transmission.

If you've pressure washed your bike or ridden in a hurricane, it's likely some water got in there.

That's OK then, but only API-GL5 is the correct one for you're bike.

So apparently my gearbox has been running on honey for some time...  :musicboohoo:



I bought some (extremely expensive) 75w140 and put in there now, hopefully that will work too.

Btw. I put a crush washer on that drainplug, guessing there's supposed to be one there? There was only a somewhat conical washer there, fixed to the plug.

I didn't remove it because it was much too narrow to pass over the threads. You can see it in the picture if you enlarge it. If that's the old crush washer, it's extremely deformed, so I thought it was supposed to be there... but it isn't?

Is that a rubber piece? A lot of my rubber is starting to disintegrate... Would that be under the battery, approximately?

If you can drain, save and re-use the trans fluid you just put in, I suggest you remove that ancient washer (and ideally the new one too) and put it all back together with a new washer.

It's possible that you won't have a leaking problem if you leave things as-is, but...

You'll find that the old washer can be pried off without too much trouble.

I did that by mistake once. Couldn't figure out why I paid $20 instead of $10 until I looked at the empty bottle the next day.

im pretty certain that somebody opened your oil fill and pizzed in your sump... ive seen it before and it looks exactly like this...

Who does that? 

Seems like a lot of effort and aim when deflating tires or cutting wires would be quicker without leaving DNA behind.

Well it didn't smell like piss... although I'm pretty desensitized to the smell as we're in the middle of potty-training the youngest now.
