OK to use battery tender?

Is it OK to connect a battery tender via the accessory socket under the seat (K100 RT, 1989)? Used to this for the R100RS, but I spotted a warning in one of the manuals (Clymer?Haynes? Can't recall which ATM), advising not to use this socket for battery charging, due to a risk of damaging electronics.

If not, how do you connect your battery tender?

I know that BMW offers a charger(or used to) That could be plugged in under the seat. No adapter needed.   The one on the handlebars, however is a different story. Everything I have ever heard about it is that it can damage your electronics if you connect a battery charger by the handlebars. Better to be safe than sorry.

Did you buy the Yuasa "Sure Shot 900" ? Nice little charger for the money. Take the battery harness from the charger and install it on the right side of your bike so you have easy access from both sides:)

Really. I do this routinely. No ill effects. Where did you here that one?

That is cool:) If you do it with no ill effects, then I should be able to also.
It was posted on a website for battery chargers or in a article I saw about chargers and BMWs. My brain is on vacation so I do not recall which. I think the article was about a newer "R" bike, but I can't see how that should make any difference.

On newer bikes with CANBUS a special charger is needed, which sends out a signal to keep the socket
connector "open", after the ignition have been switched off.
