hello all!

Im a new owner of a fine BMW 'brick' K100LT and new member of this forum!!

Overall its a good bike, 89 model, 36,000 miles and tidy condition

Few bits i would like to know....

What reading do people normally have on the temp gauge? I'm in the UK with average temp today around 14c, temp gauge seems to be around half way in city riding, is this right?! My old Honda temp gauge never used to go much over a quarter!

The screen is epic at keeping the wind off, there are two little adjustable flaps on the side of the screen at the top, the mounts for these are all cracked up and look like they will fall apart while on the motorway, anyone know where to get replacement ones from?

The radio dosent work! which is a bummer as i quite fancy blasting some music out! Any guides on fixing these?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome Jamie!

Your temp gauge have normal reading (just below the middle mark).

Parts for the flaps which is used at the comfort screen, you can get from your BMW dealer.
Since you`re from UK, you also could try: Motobins, Motorworks, James Sherlock.

If the battery have been disconnected, you need a pin code to get the radio to function.
You find a users manual for the radio in the bookshelf.

couple more questions for all the Brickheads...

Radio: It does have one although but not connected, im not to sure where all the wires connect in, does anyone have a wiring diagram for these? Its not an original BMW radio, it is some old Ford unit with radio and tape deck! Is it possible to just wire a 3.5mm audio jack instead of using the radio head unit?!

Coolant: How do you go about topping it up?! I think the radiator cap is under the left side of the fairing? and the little coolant auxiliary tank fills under the seat somewhere?!

Splines: Any comprehensive guides for the greasing of splines? I read a little trick of using longer bolts to avoid stripping the rear end totally

ABS: seem to have a fault with the ABS, the light starts flashing at me once iv pressed the front brake on start up, and the ABS does not work

Oil: going to change the engine oil as it hasn't been done for a year ( bike only done 1k in the year though) should i do transmission oil at the same time?

I hooked up the output from a Blaupunkt unit to some headphones and it worked.

You're better off doing a complete spline lube so that you can clean out the clutch splines of the old stuff well.

Here's a write-up for a K1100RS spline lube - similar but not identical to a K100.

Coolant: Radiator cap is under front, right of the tank...expansion tank is on right side under the seat.
Splines: look at the lieberry................lieberry card catalog.

You ever heard of anyone with just a 3.5mm jack instead of the radio unit?

Can you point me in the direction of a wiring diagram?

To a newer model than yours, but most would be identical. Probably you ain`t got the antenna amplifier.

Do you mean 3,5mm to headphones instead of the loudspeakers.......shouldn`t be any problem as long the resistance is above 4 ohms.........AFAIK most headphones is 8-32 ohms.

no the other way round, so no radio head unit, just a 3.5mm wire for plugging an iPod into

I don`t think an Ipod has power enough for the loudspeakers in the fairing, if it is that you have in mind.
You probably need an amplifier between.......but now I`m on thin ice, as I don`t now that much about
this modern things as ipod, ipad, iphone, ipid, ipyd etc.

You are 100% correct on this. Very few speakers are efficient enough to run on an iPod without a amplifier, and those that can will not be loud enough for a bike.
