OK, my speedo quit on me and I couldn't find any one to repair it for me. So I TOFTT and bought a nifty trail-tech speedo. Here's what I found:
1. I wasn't able to make the K-bike rear wheel pickup work. Maybe the pickup is broken, I dunno. But I had to wire it up to a little magnet on the front wheel.
2. The tach, on the other hand, works fine. The cable marked "tach" coming out of the speedo has a red and white wire. Red goes to black/blue (Pin 16) and white goes to ground. Set the speedo to 2 pulses per revolution.
3. Wire red power wire from speedo to red/white "clock power" (pin 1), white to ground.
Also, if you disassemble the mounting bracket for the old speedo, it makes a fine mount for the trail-tech. I'll post a pic if I get the durn thing working satisfactorily.
I have a temp gauge so I didn't put the temp sensor in, but I might later, to take advantage of the warning light.
I'm having a heck of a time getting the idiot lights to work.
First of all, the LED's don't work, had to use the regular bulbs.
I wired the oil warning lamp brown/green (pin 11) to one light, thence to ground. Light stays on constantly.
I wired both turn signal indicators (blue/red and blue/black) together to one light, thence to ground. All turn lights are on constantly.
I have a common ground for tach and idiot lights.
I'm gonna keep tinkering with the turn signal lights -- maybe they don't like being wired together? I'm not sure where to start with the oil warning light.
Will keep you posted with progress. Meanwhile any suggestions would be appreciated.
