I thought that may have been your bike at one time.  Did you get it from Jim Cox?  I think he had one of those Dakar yellow Special Editions.

I solved the buffeting issue by cutting down an old windshield.  It put my helmet up in clear air with the turbulence down on my chest.

Damn!  I wish I didn't sell that bike.  It just didn't have enough weather protection for late fall and early spring riding.
yes, I bought it from Jim. I think that yellow with the black engine and the S fairing is one of the finest looking bricks out there. I wonder if the seller will sell it bAck for what i SOLD IT TO HIM FOR?

+1 on the color scheme.  I still regret selling mine.  The short windshield works great and in a way looks better than the stock shield.

No harm in asking if he'll sell it back for what he paid you.

Beemuker, My 93 S is listed on Cycletrader, but I'm about 1400 miles from you in old New Mexico. And I thought that might have been your former Dakar for sale in Tally Town. I grew up there, have family there so always checking their CL bikes out. That's how I picked up a lightly used R1200GS there last July. I drove down and picked it up, got to visit family at the same time.

I’m picking up a R1100LT from my daughter’s in Greenwich, CT in a few weeks. I plan on driving it back to Fl. I hope the Sargent seat will fit my butt. I liked the one I had on my 75.

The $1450 suggests he will take a little less, especially since you can't hear it run. I dang sure wish I was close by for this one. Once you put eyes on it you'll know better. Offer him 1100, maybe he'll take 12. Looks like an awesome find. Caveat emptor, oc.

Not a problem. Battery case dimensions can be viewed in the MaxBMW parts fiche, similar among all Brick models. 19ah–30ah range. Should be available locally or online.

The fuel tank cap is on backwards. Might have water in the tank depending on if it has been subjected to condensation. Syphon out any fuel and replace. Bring a replacement fuel filter with you.

It might depend on the content of the message you sent and the experience the seller has already had with bogus contacts. If you want to get the seller's attention, tell them you want to make an appointment to see the moto and when you come to see it, you'll bring enough cash to make a deal if you like it. Don't pepper the seller with questions.

In Florida though, every interpersonal interaction can be considered a potential scam.  :laughing4-giggles:

I've been looking for a "classic" car on Craig's List for a couple months now.  My opinion is that it's totally worthless for anything that is worth more than $15-20.

If the seller isn't running a scam, they're scared to death that they're being scammed.  Last week I responded to two ads for cars in two different cities 1500 miles apart.  The email replies I got were word for word, three paragraph stories of widows selling their late husband's car and that they left the car with a broker while they recovered from thyroid surgery at their late parent's house in Nebraska.  Yeah, right...!

Going forward, unless it's a dealer, if it's not out in front of the house with a For Sale sign, I'm not interested.   Buying anything there is too damn much work.

I've got stuff listed on CL but I can recognize the assphish (new species, no relation to other legit fish) pretty easily, which is 95% of the time. They always say they'd like to purchase but don't say what, and always say to reply to an external email. Same on local sites like bookoo.com.

Seller contacted me, I borrowed my neighbors trailer, and drove  up there. Looked er over. Bad gas in tank. Dead battery. Oil coming out of weep hole. Offered a thousand, settled on 1150. Going to get a battery, fuel filter, and drain the tank. Gonna need tires.  We'll see. I't really dirty, but  I think it will clean up.

Tank doesn't look too bad. draining old gas out. Brown crusty stuff all over the filter and gas level sending module. I guess I'll have to remove the tank and clean it out good. that thin hose [drain line ? ] IS CRACKED, PROBABLY SHOULD REPLACE THE HOSES TOO.

Glad you got it fairly cheap, hopefully nothing horrible lurking under the Tupperware.

Bite the bullet and pull the plastic off.  It will make all the work a lot easier and give you a chance to detail everything before you work on it.

Get a jug of S100 motorcycle cleaner.  The stuff does an amazing job of stripping the dirt and grease.  A couple chip brushes and a bunch of those sponge on a stick bottle cleaners from the dollar store will help loosen the crap before you rinse it all off.  Working on a dirty bike sucks!

it doesn't. You can reach the 2 fuel connections and off comes the tank. It still had both small clips!
