K100LT Parts Diagram Question
« on: December 21, 2020, 04:40:39 AM »
Going over my 87' I see I'm going to need to rebuild the water/oil pump due to a coolant drip at the telltale weep hole. Looking at the water/oil pump parts diagram on parts fiche at MAX BMW I see diagrams for two water/oil pumps. At a quick glance the only difference I see between the two diagrams is the oil pump pickup.

How do I know which diagram applies to my 87 K100LT?

Greetings,
Usually, upon close examination of parts diagram and component list, you will find a "from" or "to" model year designation for parts that have changed or been modified.
If that's not the case then call MAX with pertinent date: year, model, VIN and they will set you straight.

I have found them to be very helpful and eager to get you the right part.

All the seals, bushings, impellers, shafts and other parts recommended for rebuilding your pump have the same part numbers in either diagram. It can be a costly undertaking. Whether the pump needs a new shaft will be determined when you inspect it; however, many of them are pitted beyond the ability to salvage.

Thanks all. thinking about the age of the bike and the miles on the clock I set out to but together a parts list for rebuilding the water/oil pump. Working with MAX BMW I found for just a few more bucks I could order a new pump. Thinking about the time that would go into rebuilding and not knowing for sure if it was successful until installation I opted for buying new. I should have it in a week or two.
