CUSTOM COOLANT RADIATOR
« on: January 31, 2019, 12:41:07 AM »
Thought I'd like to share this with you and on here (workshop) as this is the busiest page. If you have seen my K75 adventure bike you will note I like things done in a different way and a bespoke way. The standard radiator that came with the donar bike is foobarred, when taken in for a  professional flush and clean out they exposed around a dozen weak spots that were weeping and that was the end of that. I was harbouring a desire to go copper core and get it recored but then while google searching found a custom radiator company that serviced the racing world. They are in the process of manufacturing my unit now and it should be an exact replication of the original including all mounts and using the 'K' thermostat and cap. The one bonus of this new custom rad is that the capacity of the coolant cores will be effectively doubled by means of increasing the core thickness. At present the core is around 35mm thick and if you notice the thickness of the standard side tanks their is plenty of room for extension.

This new unit will be all aluminium and robust as hell. They are doing a machine drawing to go with it for any future replication commissions. I'll naturally post up pictures as soon as I get it and document any problems of fitment I encounter. I'll probably look at fitting some upgraded coolant fans too as a matter of fact to go with this new rad. Keep you posted......

I really like how you up-engineer identified or suspect weak points. My brother roadraced and had sensors all over the bike, a project with Intel, to continuously evolve the platform and motor.

I had a custom radiator (twin fan) made for a mid-engine car, that increased the coolant volume. The pressure dropped and the fix was easy ... a slightly smaller pump pulley, 12% in my case. No issues with bearings. The brick is so compact, pressure drop may not even be noticed. Looking forward to the pics., and are they anodizing the radiator?

Sorry gents, one day I'll get round to fixing this sideways issue..... (I'm a technophobe in reality)
