Rear Main Seal Tool Specs
« on: July 28, 2018, 09:47:10 AM »
Does anyone have BMW's spec sheet for the rear main seal tool #88 88 6 111 630?

I've found Rod Kilduff's instructions on how he made a wooden tool to seat it .5mm proud of case and it shows the modification required but not all the measurements.  My new neighbor is a CNC operator and has offered his expertise on pieces and parts.

There is a small leak either from the o-ring or seal and I plan on pulling the transmission this fall to check the clutch and probably replace both seals.

You can have it machined, or go with a redneck's barnyard engineering.

I took a piece of 1x4 pine about 4" long and glued a piece of cardboard about 0.020" thick from a cereal box with a hole a bit larger than the o.d. of the seal.  Put it over the seal and tap the seal in until the cardboard touches the case.

2 years and 10,000 miles and no leaks.

Thanks all, I'll let you know if it's worth having one made or if I go with the redneck engineering solution.

I had one made out of tough nylon and it worked a treat though you still have to tap it in slowly and carefully, 0.5 mm is not a lot. Anyway it went in fine and although I have only done 1000 miles or so since it is not leaking so far

Yea, I don't think the material used is critical, I've used plastic, aluminum and wood to seat seals.  In this case it is the 0.5mm that is important.

3-D printer anyone?

Is the 0.5mm critical for the K75?  I thought this applied to the K100 only?  Do I have the wrong information stuck in my head?
