Turn signal/flasher relay buzz
« on: September 28, 2017, 11:53:56 PM »

I'm Installing new controls. EVERYTHING works except for turn signals ...yes, LED. And I'm only running rear signals (no front). When I hit the left blinker the blinker relay (green box) makes awful buzzing sound, hit the right... different awful buzzing sound. It won't turn off until I kill the power. I tried a 6 ohm resistor and still does it. Keep in mind the circuit for the fronts are still open. So, the questions...
1. What am I missing? I've read all the posts on cutting the trace on the circuit board but it seems like all thse posts were simply for a no-flash condition. My buzzing won't go away until I kill the power and remove the key from the ignition. Wierd stuff. I don't want to bust into the relay if this is a bigger issue.
2. My new switch has 3 wires (power, left and right) and the BMW harness has 5 (a cancel wire and a dimmer - neither being re-used). Can i just cap those?
3. What do I do for the fronts to properly close the circuit so it doesnt think I have a bulb out? Or is that even a problem. I do not plan on running front indicators (not required where I live)
Thanks everyone!

To achieve what you tryin' isn't possible with the OEM relay that easy, you need to buy a different one....

The main problem is your new switch, which is meant for a ordinary relay...non BMW.

Best of luck on your journey onto the unknown.  Here is another possible solution:

Hey, I am having the same issue here. I have removed all lights from the bike - everything worked fine before that. Then, I installed 2 regular bulbs as front blinkers and two LEDs on the back with 6 ohm resistors on each. The blinkers stay lit - very dim - and the flasher unit buzzes as I turn the blinkers on. It stops buzzing when I shut down the blinkers. I am using the stock controls. Thoughts?

Discussed in many threads on this forum.  Here's one with lots of information:  http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,659.0.html

TL;DR = get rid of the ballast resistors and modify the OEM flasher module to eliminate the resulting hyperflashing. Don't use 6 Ohm ballast resistors to simulate an incandescent bulb.  That might work well for Jap bikes but this is a BMW.

I'm only running rear signals (no front).

Are you insane?
