Need dimensions and photos of K1100 side stand pivot bolt
« on: May 13, 2017, 05:56:28 PM »
Hi,

I lost my side stand pivot bolt on a ride yesterday and need to make a replacement.  I'm not prepared at the moment to pay the price BMW wants for a replacement  The bolt is a M10x1.25 which is finer pitched threading than on the K100/K75 side stand; I've got one of those and it doesn't fit.  If someone can post a photo or two and the dimensions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Rob, I'm pretty sure I have one around here someplace.  Give me a day or two to find it.

RBM overall length 50mm unthreaded shaft length from head 20mm thread length 10mm pin length 20mm pin diameter 6mm. I ordered a bolt from BMW and the one they supplied had thread where the side stand pivoted, I wasn't happy with that so I made one.

Jim:  Cheers mate.  Appreciate the help however it might be more expensive to send it than it's worth.  See what you come up with.

Martin:  Thanks for the dimensions. Does that length also takes into account the bushing with the zerk grease nipple?  My stand doesn't have that bushing so I may have to adjust the threading to compensate.

Having or not having a grease nipple does not make a difference on mine.  My stand did not have a nipple originally, it just had a plug which I replaced with a nipple. The bolt I got from BMW about 18 years ago was threaded all the way just had the last 20mm reduced to 6mm. I didn't like the fact that the stand was pivoting on the threaded portion. Maybe the setup on the 1100 is different to the 75. You should be able to work it out by measuring the stand thickness and how thick the initial part of the stand is, and how much the thread needs to be screwed into the threaded portion of the stand, and how much the last portion needs to be.
