Beemerboneyard Crankcase Breather Vent Hose
« on: May 06, 2017, 10:54:48 PM »
Last spring I preemptively replaced my OEM crankcase breather hose with a hose sold by Beemerboneyard at a cost of $9.95 (http://www.beemerboneyard.com/11151460480.html).

After one year and just under 17,000 miles later, I noticed the hose showed significant cracking on inspection, so much so that my stretching the hose to inspect it resulted in the hose breaking in two pieces. Fortunately, I still possessed the OEM hose, which I reinstalled and was able to stretch to my heart's content without breaking.  My recommendation is to only replace the hose with OEM BMW, which costs $15.09 (BMW part #11 15 1 460 480).

I think I have two years and maybe 30k miles on mine, or something, but mine has a lot of cracking too. I've wondered if a better grade of hose could be used. I figure all that damn heat isn't helping

I have a 5 years on my bby hose and it's still good, but there were lots of complaints about them over on BMWMOA, they are not OEM and many of them failed prematurely.

I replaced my original hose approx. 12 months ago as a precaution. That would make it at least 20 years old the amount of time I've had the bike or it could be the original which would make it 25 years old. I used to treat it with Polyglaze rubber and plastic restorer I'm now using Surf Cities Black Max. I just went and checked the old one for cracking and deterioration and it is fine. By the way still on my original coolant hoses and still have my original fuel pump damper in excellent condition as a spare.  :dunno
