Air box removal

I  have search high and low and have not found an answer. I have read the post that say your can't do it because of the AMS but I find it hard to believe that no one has tried it. Has anyone tried it? If it failed or wasn't worth while I understand. I am building a bobber and want the look of separate filters. I know that the factory is a good setup. I just want to know if anyone has tried it and the results (good or bad). If there is no experience then I will post a before and after

What's the AMS?

One of the reasons you might have read posts that say you can't do it—or why you haven't read any posts saying it can be done—is because people have tried to do it and the results weren't good. Most people must have gone on to something that was possible without bothering to write about failure.

The mass (volume) air flow sensor is a component that needs to be in the Jetronic system. That is what runs your K75 ; the air flow sensor is a necessary part of of the system. Here's a post with some discussion about your obstacle including an example of a modification and comment on its benefit.

Easy enough to remove the airbox and install a cone filter on the AMS, AFS, or air sensor thingie.  CC Products used to make a kit, I installed mine back in 1988 and it seems to work pretty well

Laitch - AMS Air mass sensor. Of course you can do it. The question is if anyone has tried it. If everyone was thinking it can't be done and never tried it then they don't know, they just assume. I have built too many cars and bikes in my 60+ years to know that anything is possible but it is not necessarily a good thing Hell, I can remember when people said vortex generators would not work or be effective. Look out your wind next time you fly commercial

Thanks.  I read that thread and agree that putting carbs on would be a why. I have tuned to many 4 and 6 cylinder motorcycles to want to do it. But then I have done a single Holley on a VW and multiple Webers on a 240Z.

I've seen more than one cafe build on Google images with four cone filters, so it's possible- but I have no idea how it was accomplished. It may be necessary to switch to an aftermarket FI control system.

The Motronic system on 4v K100RS and K1100's didn't use a MAF.  Airflow is inferred from the throttle position and engine rpm.  Theoretically, it should be possible to retrofit the Motronic system to a bike with a Jetronic.

I agree with the last three post. I am going to do it and do a seat of the pants comparison of the two. I pickup teh donor bike Monday and I will start a project log. Now to figure theexhaust  :2thumbup:
