Oil pickup O Ring.

I'm looking for some advices.
I removed the oil pan and removed and cleaned the oil pickup screen. When trying to replace the new o ring, I pushed it in too far and it appears it dropped into the case.
I'm not sure how to proceed.

Any help would be great.

I've never had the oil pan off of a K bike so I don't know exactly the parts you are talking about, but when I have had similar situations I've had luck by taping a small hose onto a vacuum cleaner hose and then poking it around inside where the part was lost. The hose doesn't have to be big enough to suck the oring in, but just to "grab" the original and pull it to where you can grab it with something else to remove it.

Thanks. I have a 1994 K75s.
First BMW and it has been a project.
This was a project bike purchased from Bob's. I did all of the fluid and tune up items because this bike had very low miles, but had sat around for a while. After 45 miles of riding there was a grinding noise, which turned out to be the alternator bearing.
Long story short: new bearing,seal and lots of labor with a complete spline lube job complete and now together.
I was just about ready for oil and now an o ring issue.

The oil/water pump is on the other side of that wall. If you can't extract it with some ingenious wrangling like Kmev put together, you'll need to remove the pump. You'll also have pump o-rings to replace, too.

What are you using for guidance with these procedures?

Put the bike details in your profile then readers won't need to search around to find what bike is being repaired.

These seems like it will be easy to fix but bothersome. On the upside, you'll be learning more about your bike. Sleep on the problem. You might wake up with a solution.

I have been riding and working on bikes for 40 years. This is my first BMW, but certainly not my first bike.
My good friend has been wrenching on airheads for 25+ years and has been working with me every step. I have been using my Clymer manual as well as the original BMW repair manual. All torques and specs. have been followed.

As Laitch stated, when I am finished I will know this bike in and out. I look at that as a good thing. I was going to put off the full spline lube for a while and just ride the bike. After the bearing issue and tear down, I was kind of glad I had to rip into it and lube the very dry splines. Everything happens for a reason. Splines are in like new condition and now have a fresh lube.

What is that picture you posted?

Have you fashioned a hook out of some stiff wire and fished around in the hole?

That was the original issue. Bearing behind the alternator.

What does that have to do with the AWOL o-ring? 

I'm confused.  Are we trying to help you with your alternator drive or get you o-ring out?

 Sorry. We are concerned with the o ring.
I will try a small wire to fish out the ring. If that doesn't work I will remove the water/oil pump.
Thanks for the input. Knowing that I can fix the issue by removing the pump is the information I was looking for.

As a side note. Any advice for installing the o ring without this issue happening?
