K75 1993 cafe racer cutting out when warm
« on: April 23, 2017, 12:18:34 PM »
hi all,

Need a little help from you wizards,

I purchased a k75 rt a couple of weeks ago to build a cafe racer,
I road it home about seventy miles, ran sweet (but i did think it was running a bit rich)

Stripped it down, chopped bits off, and started mocking it up.

The abs had already been removed( I chopped out and isolated the wiring )
Fitted a acewell 2859 clock and isolated the wires not used
Cleaned up all wiring connectors (not many were green)

I took it out for a ride today, got about five miles from home and it started cutting out!
I turned round to get home and didn't make it, it cut out and stopped, giving it loads of throttle it struck back into life and i got a little further, same again....
I managed to get to the bottom of our estate and thought "must be out of fuel"
I walked home and got some more, started and then cut out at the bottom of the drive.

Rechecked all connectors, all ok
On centre stand, clutch in spins over and loads of fuel coming out of the exhaust.
Pulled ht lead 3 and plugged in new plug (weak spark)
Fuel return not blocked

After five mins, starts and runs for about one min and cuts out, wont restart, just throws fuel into exhaust.

Hall sensor???

Or have i messed something up with wiring the acewell?
I did notice that the rpm was not correct on clock (reading to high) do you need to change anything being 3 cylinder ?
Speedometer was reading to high ( I calibrated the clock with the settings from the book apart from the circumference that I found online.

Thanks
Steve

Welcome, Steve.

Yours is a story more often told than The Three Little Pigs or Hansel and Gretel and the cause of this problem can vary from case to case.

Be certain there is no airflow restriction, that all stock electrical plugs are clean and tightly connected, that all frame grounds and battery connections are clean and tight. After that, follow the troubleshooting chart at this link, proceeding step-by-step as instructed. Included in this document are diagnostic testa for the temperature sensor and Hall sensors as well as a number of other electrical tests. Break out your multimeter.

Please post some photos of your creation.

Lol, yep its best to tell the full story.

I will put some photos on when its back together,

It's a bit of a two stage affair, chuck it together for a bit, then full stripdown over winter for paint.

Thanks for the further info, i will have a look tomorrow after work.
