While I'm down there
« on: April 13, 2017, 05:17:47 AM »
Am replacing the throttle body rubbers (top and bottom) on my bike in an attempt to cure vibrations at 3500 - 4000 rpm.

And as the actress said to the bishop: "While I'm down there..." (yeah, my parents are English)

Is there anything else I should be going after? As I've got the tank, air intake and throttle bodies off... and have to wait for clips for plenum chamber to throttle body rubbers (local hardware offerings don't fit)...

Am tempted to go after the ubiquitous rattle (either the output shaft anti-backlash spring and/or bearing).

So here's the question: if I do this what else should I order and go after? Am thinking the output shaft damper rubbers, lube the gear box spline, check the thickness of the clutch plate, ...

I am NOT going after clean / bead blasted finish on the engine etc etc. The bike needs a respray. A brush down with petrol / gasoline, retain the 32 year old patina is "the look". Bike it too tatty for me to "restore it". Rather I prefer the dirtier look but know the internals are sorted and the bike goes as good as a polished one.

The grot in the throttle bodies suggests that it has never been open. All clean and shiny now but sorta looked like Grandma's emphasemic lungs. But last weekend, going to "themachinefiles" motorcycle show at Braidwood NSW, I still got up to 7000rpm with tragkorbs on.

Think I've got the taste. 8500 in the offing.

One day.

I know it's easter but ONE of you must have been down this path:

What else should I be going after if I am changing the output shaft spring?

I think TMG might have done this.

Vespa Vespa what are we to do with you, I am referring to THE MIGHTY GRYPHON. Look at his old posts he might have done this, not entirely sure.

VNM and I have had some correspondence on the matter.

Here's a link to the article I mentioned.

Good discussion of the work and lots of photos.

Thanks kind Sir

I pulled the two K100 manuals out the garage and settled down in front of the football and a beer and simply opened the voluminous BMW workshop manual.

And wouldn't you know it - straight onto the output shaft exploded diagram.

It was meant to be.

After I'm finished here, it's to the therapy centre with beer in hand (with which I seem to do my best work)
