I have just purchased a k1100Lt with only 15k miles and oh ya it is a 1993. Great shape not to many scratches on the cases or fairing. What would people suggest for a maintenance book?.

Just check the 4 valve and general list up above. You're still not fully broken in, so stick with good conventional oil every 3-5k miles. I'd do all the fluids now as a matter of course with any new (to you) vehicle.

Check you battery. See when it was last replaced. AGM batteries are inexpensive roadside assistance and starter motor insurance.

Sounds like a good score. 8) Mine only had 14k on it when I got it. But that was back in 2005.

Before I picked up the bike from my local BMW dealer, the oil got changed, new battery, new forkseals, new trans fluid and rear end. So far I love the ride only have had it for 1 week and the longest trip was 140 miles. Is there a break down on getting the rear wheel off?.

Not sure on the LT, but usually you can put a 2x6 under the center stand, and then put it up on it. That usually gives enough room under the fender to pull it out diagonally.

Otherwise, you can pull the rear fender or the exhaust.

Reading what the dealership did, I would also recommend changing brake fluid and engine coolant if you don't know they've both been changed within a year. Brake fluid should be changed on a yearly basis. If you use a long-life coolant (all I can seem to find at WalMart these days), you can let it go for a couple or three years. But every once-in-a-while, move the fuel tank back and open the coolant filler cap and check the coolant level. If a bit low, bring it up to the top, then suspect the hose from the fill connection to the overflow bottle is old and leaking, flowing hot coolant out when the engine is hot, but allowing air to enter when coolant should be flowing back into the system from the overflow bottle.

Thanks for everyones help please keep the tips comming. I went for a ride last night before the rain came again here in Vermont. Whent through Smugglers notch into Stow hard to keep the LT under 60mph. I have pics that I will post later thanks again.

awesome pics ! I am going to try a ride to Franconia Notch next weekend or possibly forst of next week depending on work it looks I to have a 1100lt and love the heck outa the rides, now I gotta get used to actually taking pictures !

Please take pic's of bike and great back ground of the notch. This is my first Bike but not my first BMW love them to death. At least now I have an excuse to slow down and take pic's if I think I'm going to be late I can step it up a bit. first MOD went on tonight, ZTecknic wind screen can't wait to try it out.

Ok rode the rest of the summer with new wind shield and love it. This winter has been a real upset, very little snow lots of rain. If I lived closer to the city of Burlington I could have ridden most of the winter. Bought a new Bell Revolver helmet the fit is good all the functions are easy to use and plenty of room for a blue tooth system. Next MOD to look for is adjustable control leavers.

There are adjustable brake levers available but no adjustable clutch levers.

It just has 5 lug nuts and it's off.

Thanks everyone, this site has been real help full. Today was a boring Sunday so out to the garage looked at how to get the tank off. Piece of cake if the tank was empty:). Under all the plastic and tank look to be in good shape for the year of the K1100LT. All the luggage is in the basement with a fresh coat of wax waiting for warmer weather. The bike started with ease, going out tomorrow to get oil and filter. Lots to do before the ice melts and mud season begins.

Well snow just fell yesterday (Saturday) and it looks like biking season will be delayed a little. Has any one use Bridgestone Battle ax tires on any Bike?. Found a good deal on a set of BT 45, never used Bridgestone before. Before I forget Greetings to everyone from the Green mountain state.

DON'Tput bias ply tires on a K1100LT. It will ride remarkably better on radials.

Bridgestone BT023 or Michelin Pilot Road 2 on the front. Avon Azaro on the rear.

I am really suprised that how easy this 1100LT comes apart. I took me only 5min for the rear wheel and 15min for the front it would take me longer to get the wheel off of the f650gs. Fresh snow just fell today, by the looks of the forcast out look it won't be around for long.

That's why we love them. But you will find some parts do not disengage so easily. :biggrin:

Fork seals got done before I purchased due to they were leaking. Air filter on my list of todo before summer. Also a GPS mount for a Garmin NUVI.
