'85 K100RS paint code
« on: April 01, 2017, 12:45:51 PM »
I am in the process of preparing my RS for a complete paint job.
It was not an RS originally, I collected different fairing pieces from  many sources and had them painted a bright red (non BMW) color years ago.  Now I need to get it back to one of the colors offered in 1985 so I can have the bike registered as a "Collecter" which will allow me to insure it at a much lower rate.
According to Phil Hawksley's BM bikes the blue offered for that year was 618 Caribic Blue. I was hoping someone on this forum has a blue K100RS from 1985 and can confirm this information by looking at the paint code sticker under the seat.
There may not be to many of these old machines around, mine has 170,000 Kms, but this is the place to look.
Thanks. Dean.

Thanks Wally. I did that and came up with Caribic blue. I'd like to have confirmation from another source before committing though. As they say, you can't believe everything on the internet.

618 is the scheme code, the colour code for caribic blue is 183.

What does the scheme code refer to? I can see how it would apply to bikes that had pinstriping but the K's at that time were all one color with no additional details.

BMW have its own system which also the models with one colour only have its own scheme code....why.... :dunno2:
But it's always exceptions, on a very few models the scheme code and the colour code have the same number.
