Not starting help !!
« on: March 30, 2017, 03:12:25 AM »
First post and needing help. Bike is an 83 K100. Bike was running fine but off the road for a while while I had the wheels powder coated and nice new tyres fitted. Went to start, spins over but no action. Realise I can't hear the fuel pump. Pump has been replaced thanks to links on here from Quantum. Interestingly I had to buy from their website as buying through Amazon they would not ship to Australia. Anyway bike spins over but no sign of firing. No fuel pump noise again. Bridged the 30 and 87 terminals and the pump runs with the key off. As soon as the key is turned on the pump stops.Kill switch seems fine, fuel warning lights work.

The Fuel Pump relay coil terminal 85 is connected to the Motronic Unit which contols the relay by applying an earth on this terminal when the Fuel Pump is required to operate.

The Fuel Pump relay coil terminal 86 is connected to +12v via the Ignition Switch, the Kill Switch and the Sidestand switch.

If you switch on the Ignition and check for +12v on the Fuel Pump relay socket terminal 86 then that will prove that the Ignition Switch, the Kill Switch and the Sidestand Switch are OK.

If the above test is OK, then you may have a power failure to the Fuel Pump - check for +12v on the Fuel Pump relay socket terminal 30. If this is not present, check Fuse #6 is not blown. This fuse is supplied directly off the battery and not via the Ignition Switch.

Welcome to the asylum, the 4 pin connector under the RH side of tank has a notorious reputation of bad conductivity. How's the weather?

FYI, no side stand switch on this bike.

. . . the 4 pin connector under the RH side of tank has a notorious reputation of bad conductivity..
Which might be under the LH side of the tank on your old bike, roy. Clean it thoroughly and be sure the fuel injection control unit under the seat has plug contacts and that it is connected tightly. How long was the bike out of service while you were prettifying its components and how old is the fuel in that tank?
