My electrical is a mess

Bought my first  , k100 RS 1986 Canadian version and took it apart. Heated grips are gone, wires were removed. light switch on the central consul had only one wire.

Question to all good ppl on the forum:

Please point me to the right diagram that can show me where to connect them. Wires are missing from central light switch that none engineer can understand

How the hell is the heated grips set up. the wires seem to just be lose in the assembly. Manuals have terrible picture.

The OEM heated grip wiring branches out from the main harness at a connector under the tank, left side.  From there, grip wiring is routed up through the switch, then through a hole in the center of the handlebars - then inside of the handlebars - out toward the grips.

Im in West end, Long Branch and Lake Shore Blvd West though I have my k at the cottage near Collingwood and work on it every few weeks that I visit.
sorry don't have pictures, it would not help anyways because my central switch just has one wire hanging from it not been connected to anything even though there is 3 pins on the switch.

As per Head Grips I made my mind just to order 61312300383 OEM Heated Grip Retro K from BMW. It comes to 283.75 CAD. Which is pretty pricy but I plan to keep this bike for a very long long time and I'm really into OEM parts.

Good idea or not?

As per light the links don't work. I have not registered the bike yet and I do believe this will not pass safety test. Any one has pictures of where those three wires from the central light switch suppose to connect to?

From what I've read there are more efficient grip heaters than the OEM. Also, heated gloves like those from Warm n Safe seem like a good option. I don't have heated grips but I rarely ride in temperatures below 25ºF.

Anyway, this thread at the K100 forum covers heated grip wiring. Where it reads "Cattery" in the chart in should read "Battery". The color code for the wires is this:
gnsw =green black
br =brown
sw =black
gr =grey
gnge = green yellow

There is also this. A photo of what you are calling "the central light switch" would be illuminating. :giggles

I just installed the OEM heated grip retrofit kit and am happy with the heat.   BMW more than doubled the price in the USA from $239 (what I paid) to $499, so congratulate yourself on the 'deal'.

Heated grips are nice, but not absolutely necessary.  What I have found is that they do a good job of keeping your palm warm, but insulated gauntlet gloves do a better job of keeping my fingers warm.  What I would really like to find is a gauntlet with the insulation on the back of the hand to hold the heat in, and an uninsulated palm to allow maximum heat transfer from the grip.

My bikes have them, both OEM and aftermarket.  I have repaired the OEM grips on two bikes, and if you can solder you can repair them.  If the OEM price looks a bit high, there are used OEM grips on eBay.  The hardest part of installing them is getting the wires through the bars, and there are tricks to make that part of the job a lot easier.  I think it's been mentioned, but Chris "F-Bomb" Harris has a good video on doing grip repair.

Never used my heated grips, though they were on on one trip (Now why do my palms get so warm on this bike?) Wasn't impressed, and they only heat your palm if you hold the bars, i ride one-handed quite often so there goes. Gerbing heated gloves, best gear-investment i ever did! For winter riding that is...
