Where does this cable attach?

Guys, there's a cable that comes out of the clutch lever on my k1100LT and the black plug in the end is loose... Where does it attach?

It is probably the switch for the clutch.  It interlocks with the starter circuit to only allow the starter to operate when the transmission is in neutral or the clutch is disengaged.

It connects to a mating connector under the tank. 

A photo will help in making a positive identification.

Yep, it's the switch for the clutch. I can only start it in neutral. I'll look under the tank.

I attached it to the plug under the tank, and it still does not work... DAMN!!!

Any ideas of how to troubleshoot it?

That is the same plunger switch used for the front and rear brake lights on many K's.  Once they go bad I have not had any luck repairing them.  Pricey buggers ($50)

Google Translate sometimes helps. Anyway, here's a picture. You will probably need to replace the switch. That rod should move in and out to make contact. If it is seized that is one problem that might be fixable; if it is not seized and doesn't work that is a replacement need.

The plunge in my clutch lever is not seized, so it's bad... Right? I'm just gonna ignore it then...

The originator of this thread seems to be satisfied so I'm going to take a risk and hijack it (full power to flame shields Mr. Sulu).
My '85 K100RS requires the clutch lever to be pulled in order to start it even when the transmission is in neutral. The gear position switch appears to be functioning correctly otherwise though. Green light and gear indication are good. This is easy to live with and is only an issue when I try to start the bike when on the side stand.
So the question is, why is the starter logic not getting the status of the transmission? Is that decision determined within the instrument cluster? As it is, if my clutch plunger fails I'll be screwed.

I should have looked at the electrical diagram before posting. I see that there is a diode within the instrument cluster that could be the culprit. Either that or a poor connection at the rear of the cluster. I think it would be prudent to leave it until I get the LED kit for the instrument lights. I don't want to open that up any more than necessary.
