Hi guys,

I just bought a metallic black K1100LT, and will be riding it home tomorrow. It has around 65.000km (40.000 miles) on the clock and sounds sweet.

I've had bikes for 30 years now. I own a Honda CBX1000 as well, so I'm used to big bikes, but never had a BMW bike. I also have a Yamaha Majesty 250, so I'm used to Touring bikes  :hehehe

Just a quick question: Mine is a "Special Edition", what does this mean? I also looked at a "Limited Edition", but that one was a bit rough...

I will read the forum before I start asking questions.

It does have a back top case, but it's not in this picture:

The SE was a limited edition. It was limited to only a certain number produced. I don't know of an edition that was called "Limited." Did you see an ownership or company document with that name?

Welcome.  Maybe the difference was just a paint job :bmwsmile .  You can notice the unique paint job on my 1989 SE (special edition)!!

I think the LT and the RS had differing SEs, if you get my drift, Jack. I couldn't Google up a "Limited Edition" as such. The LT SE looks like it came with special paint, extra padding on the rear case (maybe even a larger case), stainless case guards, probably a super-duper windshield, and a radio that automatically scanned channels to find Rammstein.

I put it in my garage, next to the CBX, and this morning I went for the really important "will it start first time, and idle smoothly first thing in the morning?" test.

It did, sounds like a Swiss watch. I'm just a bit apprehensive concerning the fuel pump. It's NOISY!

Is there a place in the forum where I can open a project, with photos, where I can show what's happening and ask questions while I'm at it?

The bike looks really clean and untouched. Got all original documentation, including service history in the maintenance book.

By the way, it was registered in 09/1992. One of the very first ones, right?

The Limited Edition I looked at said in the fairing LIMITED EDITION NUMBER 1850 OF 2009.

I haven't seen anything in mine yet that shows it's a special edition. Previous owner said something about being full extras? Including those chrome crash bars and heated grips.

Good to hear that it fired right up for you.  But then, that's what they do.

Regarding the fuel pump noise, they get pretty noisy when the fuel level gets low.  Fill the tank and it should quiet right down.

In the Projects section. Look on the Home page menu under Motobrick Wrenching.

In your opening post, Zalle, you write that it is a Special Edition. Are you now asserting that it isn't? What gave you the impression that it was? This is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. :giggles  Like I wrote previously, SE editions were limited. That's what makes them Special. :giggles

Special and limited editions...
« Reply #14 on: January 22, 2017, 08:23:51 AM »
Guys, I was mixing things up... Sorry.

There is no LIMITED EDITION. It is the SPECIAL EDITION I was talking about.

Mine is NOT a Special Edition, it only has the back support for the passenger, and place for rear speakers, but the previous owner bought this and made it look like one.

Mine is just a plain normal K1100LT... YEYYYY!!!
