Help please - 22 litre top case won't open

Looking for some sage advice on how to get into the standard 22? litre top case on my k100. (soft pillion pad - lid opens backwards) I bought the bike recently and previous owner said he didn't have a key for it. The lock does turn with the ignition key pushed most of the way in, and I believe the key slot is horizontal in the open position? and vertical in the locked position?


Should the lock press in to open the case? do I need to remove the key or push the key fully in? lock turns as as I said but doesn't push in to release..


Any suggestions and advice gratefully received

with the key turned to horizontal the lock should be able to push in about 1/2", that is what releases the latch.

you have to use 2 hands--press down on the top of the lid slightly as you press in the button, then raise the lid while the button is held in.   It has a safety detent feature such that it won't open otherwise (by accident when riding down the road).

Thanks for the replies fellas.. Just managed to get it to open.. the pressing down on the top did the trick.. Lock needs some lubrication but otherwise all good!
