Help! Broken Right Hand Control Mounting Bracket

Greetings All,

Recently while working on my bike, I made the huge mistake of not being careful enough with the 25 year old metal on my right hand controls. The mounting bracket snapped clean off as you can see in the picture.

So here's my question: what's more difficult? finding a new/used assembly (it appears that the brake cylinder is all incorporated into one single piece) and replacing it all together

or

going with an aftermarket set up - i really dont like the turn signal & horn set-up tbh.

My bike is a 1992 K100 ABS (but the ABS has been disabled)

either way, i need to get it figured out relatively soon. i use the bike for commuting to work in LA traffic.

Finding new original equipment is easier.

ive looked here & there...does anyone know of a good thread that showed how someone went the aftermarket route? ill need parameters on the proper master cylinder spec to order...i dont mind the hard work of doing the retrofit...but i definitely want to start with a solid game plan.

all my wrenching knowledge is from working on cars - hopefully some of it carries over here...

What does that mean? You didn't find anything or you didn't want to pay the asking price for what you found?

22 bucks for the just the bracket on eBay.  You'll have to transfer your switches, brake reservoir, ect.

I'm using the clutch perch and master cylinder from an s1000rr, motogadget m-switch mini's for switches, and haven't decided on a throttle assembly yet. Also there probably isn't an off the shelf solution for relocating the choke. Since I'm a machinist, I'm going machine a new choke lever assembly and relocate it to the left hole on the gas tank.

Laitch is 100% right, finding new oem parts is way easier and cheaper. I'll have spent a lot of money on hand controls by the time I'm finished, but in my case it is a labor of love. If you don't mind the extra effort and expense I say go for it, but since you commute every day the wiser choice might be oem replacement. Be careful on that commute too! Last time I rode down there everyone was super distracted with their phones.

Adapting Japanese bike controls to BMW K-bike is possible but it is definitely not plug-n-play. Read this and this for useful information.  You'll end up substituting electronic assemblies in the relay box such as the signal flasher unit and possibly the headlamp circuit depending on what you find in terms of control sets, and how they are wired and operate.

i saw a couple of threads on it...i dont mind the hard work or expense...but i definitely was looking for the smartest way to attack the problem.

i think im going to stick with an OEM solution until i can research the other options more. I definitely need to get the bike back on the road fully functional first before any further modifications.

thank you Andy for the link...i purchased this today. ill swap everything over when it arrives. Used some JB weld in the interim to get things put back together.


and ill continue to research the aftermarket/retrofit options for other controls. i really would like to swap out my bars anyway..

That bracket won't fit a -92 RS which is a 4 valve model.......but it will fit all 2 valve models.

oh crap! welp, ill try to cancel the order....otherwise, if anyone needs that part ill sell it to you for cheap!

in the interim, though not the most ideal solution, some JB Weld actually saved the day for now and its nice & sturdy. i think ill take this as a sign to heavily research my options for retrofitting new controls and swap out the bars. i want a lower stance/feel anyways along with new rear-sets.

You can get lower bars without swapping controls, too. Check out the left column on this page, if you haven't already.

I have that part, as well as all the other handlebar parts, from my 1996 k1100rs that I would be happy to sell you if it will fit your bike. I am not sure of the compatibility though
