Hello from a Newbie Joiner - 1st Brick, 2nd BM
« on: November 14, 2016, 07:04:35 AM »
Hey Folks, got my first "Brick" a week or so ago, over here in the UK. It's a K100 ex Met Police Bike, in service from 1988 to 1997. It was one of 32 commissioned for the Special Escort Group who are the protection and outriders for the Royal's, and Government, VIP's etc.. I believe there's only about 5 remaining. I'm doing a sympathetic restoration and trying to get it back to as close to Service Spec as I can.. got most of the missing parts, now just looking for single seat and rear radio box...

Was a unique spec with RT lower fairing and a custom fibreglass top fairing with "C" headlight surround. I'm hoping to havce it properly on the road for next riding season.  I'm sure I'll be after tapping the advice and expertise from you all.. thanks in advance!

Here's a couple of pics of mine: and what the original spec looked like..

Cheers for now, James

Hi James,
Welcome from Ontario, Canada. That's an interesting looking ride you've got there. Black tank, white panels....different for sure. What's the mileage on your girl? I would imagine that she, given her duties, was carefully maintained...at least while in police/ government hands.  You will learn to love the quirky and reliable German in pretty short order. And the whirr of her engine is really music to the ears. She sounds nothing like my Kawasaki Concours (4 cyl).
Might be an idea to get some shock boots for her....protection and a neat look on these bikes.

Cheers!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.. I'll be sure to check out the tech articles.. this machine is a bit more complicated that my airhead!

@kris - thanks, yes the tank is not original, should be white and I have managed to get hold of a decent 2nd hand Police spec tank in white with the black pads.. to be fitted! also the city cases were missing and picked up a good pair of those too.. I've got much of the original police spec parts including the blue lights and electrics.. should be a fun project over the winter!.. yes I was thinking of boots for it.. I think they look better with them anyway.. so they're on the shopping list. I'm looking forward to having it back on the road and getting out for a decent ride!
