According to RealOEM they fit both bikes - at least I hope they do!

They are the same parts with different part numbers  but since no one has any to sell it doesn't really matter either way

They are the same parts with different part numbers . . .
Keep in mind BMW uses often uses generic drawings to indicate parts (recalling the crankcase vent hose diagrams) but in composition, the parts differ considerably, and in your case, the prices for the parts numbered by diagram are substantially different.

These parts may appear in used part market in the future. Before you purchase, I think you should consider that the price differences (such as the discrepancies between parts that are numbered 2) shown in Inge's diagrams indicate parts that are designed differently for the RS than for the LT.

I am more than happy to agree with you both that they are different parts.

it was this that confused me, I guess RealOEM has it wrong or they use the same part number for various bits - if I click the hyperlinks on that page to the diagrams for the various models it shows me a completely different part depending on which link I click

That is kinda worrying. Living in CR as I do returning an incorrect part is a costly and time consuming process.

Yep, that's confusing—and given Inge's data—probably inaccurate, and ultimately disappointing. Given the interest in cafe racers though, diligence on the Web could produce an RS being taken down somewhere into parts just waiting for you. This is the main reason to encourage the cafe racing trend.

Have you seen these parts in person? Maybe they can be fabricated out of styrofoam and craft-brew aluminum can stock wrapped in Reflectix. :giggles

See?

No I haven't seen them in person, just the one piece I do have no 2 - depending on which diagram you look at!

+1 Laitch. Filmcamera given that these parts are to block the heat from getting to the rider, manufacturing them should be possible. We have a shop called Clark Rubber ( US should have similar but better)  and they sell varying thickness of high density foam rubber. Having seen these parts on a K75 RT 1/2" thick looks ideal. Armed with foam rubber contact glue, aluminium tape, Refectix and a contour gauge and cardboard to make templates it would be a challenging but rewarding project.
