New Russell seat for the K11RS...
« on: November 01, 2016, 02:58:22 PM »
My wife calls the UPS truck the "Brown Truck of Joy" because of the way its arrival boosts my mood.  I was especially joyous today when it showed up with the new leather Russell seat for the K-RS...

I am a bit of a fan, having ridden Russell seats for now 25 years on 8 different motorcycles.  My other two current bikes wear them as well...

Did you have this one custom built new for you? I bought a used one from Mike here on the forum and while I believe a custom built one would be a little better it's still much, much, much better than the Corbin I had.

If you're off the bike for like 10 minutes, and your butt isn't sore, you have a good seat (like my Russell).

If you're off the bike for a couple weeks and still sore, you have a bad seat (like the Corbin I had).

Yes, built for me.  They agreed to have the same builder do the seat that did my R100RS.  Of all the Russells I have had, that one was the best.

Not sure what you mean about butt isn't sore after 10 minutes.  With my Russell(bought used) I can ride all day and night with no sore butt.  My old Corbin was excruciating after only 20 minutes.  Russell is the only way to cover lots of ground.

Me too.  I rode my R100RS with Russell 30 hours straight from Maine to Georgia last month.  I was dead-dog tired, but the ole keister was fine.

I have an all day Corbin... Guess it depends on who's butts in it.

I hear ya Beemerphile, I did 24 hrs last July on my Russell.  Same result, dead tired, but my butt was good for at least another 24.  The next best seat I have used is the OEM "comfort" seat.  I can do about 7-8 hours on my K100RS before it starts to get annoying.

The Corbin that came on my K75S looked really sharp, but it was so hard I couldn't walk after only riding for an hour.  Swapped it out for an OEM comfort seat.  Looks a little too plush for the bike, but I can do a lot of miles on that seat.

Yup.   No issues with the Corbin I have.

I can also say that I have a happy butt after riding all day on my Russell.
I need to have it recovered, but still rides fine.

Beemerphille, our bikes are identical in color & seat. I have learned the hard way over too many years that BMW designs beautiful sculpture with their seats, but they are too hard. Russell is the best. BTW, what bars have you substituted on that K1100 're? :euro

I haven't changed them.  I recently bought the bike and thought them to be stock.  I did put narrowed K-RS bars on my R100RS though.  I could pull the covers and check one vs. the other.

Here is a pic of the controls...

Yeah, I can see it's stock from this angle. I am starting to think I need wider bars than the stock RS.
