Fuel pump screen not as expected - a lil' help here....
« on: October 15, 2016, 09:57:59 AM »
The bike is a K75RT 3/92 build date. I've owned it a year.

Not knowing it's history, I thought I'd change the fuel pump damper before things got bad. I ordered what I thought would be the right damper and screen but upon removal, things are different than I expected. I'd like those with experience to comment on the situation and advise on next steps.

See the attached pic. It appears that the bike has a VDO pump with a strainer sock. Apparently the parts I purchased are for a Bosch pump with a strainer that caps over pump body. I don't think I can use this on my pump.

1) it appears that the rubber damper and plastic click-in-place mount are the same for both pump styles. Confirm?

2) the rubber damper from the bike appears to be in great shape and the fuel filter mfg date is 3/07. My guess is that the rubber and filter were changed around 07, and I am thinking I don't really need to change this.

3) There is a small tear in one end of the strainer sock so I need a replacement. This looks to be the right one:

confirm?

Thanks in advance for your help...

update - the new click mount and rubber damper are not for this pump. They are for a pump with a larger body. I suppose the Bosch is larger?

Is the 43mm VDO pump the OEM part for this build month/ year 03/92? Or do it appear that it was retrofitted?

My 5/92 K75S has a 52mm pump.  See http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/ for an adaptor sleeve.

Thanks Martin. That site is well documented. Had I seen it before, I would probably have the right parts already!!! :-)
