AV fuel

I use leaded AV fuel (no ethanol) in some of my older bikes and scooters.  It keeps for years.  Can I safely use it in my '86 K100RS over the winter?

I don't see why not.  I've just been getting a fresh tank with stabil, run it a couple miles and store it till spring.  Corn gas is all that's easily available around here , I haven't had any issues.  Usually manage to get it out at least once in December and January for a 10-20 mile romp.

Don't see any reason not to.  Around the end of October I start running my bricks on no corn mixed with stabil and techron.  Then I can put them away with no regrets.

Why isn't there a slip and fall lawyer instigating a class action suit against the ethanol industry?  Has to be billions in it for them.

THe tipover occurred when I was coming back with a fresh tank of no corn in the Moby Brick.  Wasn't any moonshine in any of the bricks that afternoon.

I'd be more concerned about using "leaded" fuel in a bike designed for "unleaded" fuel.....

Gasohol promotion wasn't about greenness or climate change. The whole scheme was mostly designed to lessen the influence of OPEC by creating an increased domestic supply, enriching the Farm Belt. It seems to have worked. Price at the pump is less. Foreign imports are less. I'm not complaining but then I'm not thinking I live in the sixties where the consequence of neglecting fresh fuel were seemingly less. I do join with those that draw the line at E10 but no greater, and I think that message has been received loud and clear.

Of course, if the thinking is that none of this is accurate and we're all just playthings of the Bilderbergers and Big Gubment, I say "Let's roll" while the rolling is good and the price is still low.

Right, so there's no catalytic converter in a K bike, but will lead foul the O2 sensor?

No O2 sensor on non-catalytic K's, I believe.  But they did have a flapper valve on the tank to cleverly foil any attempts to gas up with unleaded.

Eat corn, don't burn it. The associated costs of producing ethanol for fuel should make bean-counter blush....I'm guessing.

The costs are associated with lessening dependence on the whims of OPEC.

Laitch, don't worry. You can always depend on your friends and family north of the border. We've got lots of gas and oil, too, once you get the damn sand out of it! And if we can't help you out, there's always Trump's good friend, Vlad Putin! But he may not play fair....just a hunch. Any snow down your way yet? It's cooling pretty nicely in Ontario. First snow coming up soon north of Toronto and, no doubt, Quebec. I'm not done riding just yet....

Thanks for the support, Kris. It's a message worth repeating. You Canadians are so caring,  except in the YouTube Canadian road rage videos. :giggles

Snow on the ground here but not much of it. Below freezing at night, slightly above during the day. I was out yesterday. There are seven miles of gravel road between my house and the blacktop. Once that dirt starts freezing and thawing it gets greasy and that's the end of it until it thaws and drys after mud season, but it's not quite finished yet.

The Mighty Gryphon rolled through here on his LT yesterday headed for points east, unaffected by it all. That repair he did on his fairing was of the highest quality; the photos don't do it justice.

Tomorrow looks good!

Laitch, time to move out of the sugar shack and get closer to/ on the tarmac. As for the Mighty Gryphon I'm not sure which is more bulletproof....him or the damn bikes he rides. Seems to me it was this time last year that he picked up a K75 somewhere in the southwest and, risking life, limb and bad weather, rode the damn thing cross country back to Marilla. Brave or crazy?...you tell me. He's a great guy. Been with him on a couple of occasions.
