Gas Cap Innovations and Aftermarket Versions for K-Bikes
« on: September 19, 2016, 04:53:08 PM »
This is from TrueAce suggestion, so I'll just get it started for fun. Add on what you've created or found on the interweb or someone's else k-bike.

These were created by Z17 Customs out of Moscow where I purchased mine. They specialize in K-Bike conversion it seems.

Someone out of either Italy or Germany is starting a website selling very blingy BMW parts for K-Bikes and R-Bikes. Lots of Instagram posting of parts. I don't think the website is fully running yet. Are K-Bikes becoming a more popular platform to do conversions?

Seems many pro customizes are using K platforms, and plenty of regular guys as well. Are there more of them than non-modified K-owners? Check the Pintrest site for BMW K-Bikes, custom.........it's amazing. It would be very interesting to know how many K-Brick models are registered by State.

It seems like more of the pro-level customization are being done overseas. That's prob why the majority, if not all of the aftermarket parts are sold in EU. I think the K-Bike is prob a cheap platform to use and they're in abundance.

The problem with most of these custom caps is they deform the profiteroles I carry in my tank bag for quick emergency access.

I think that the combination of an engine that lasts forever, that puts the mass low and is different from anything else pretty much sums up the appeal of the K bikes for people that want to show their individuality.

When I was looking for a motorcycle to take my wife on - I'm 250 and she is 135 - I was looking specifically for shaft driven.

I have never had a motorcycle that weighed more than 360 lbs wet, so I was more than happy to find a good deal on my '85 K100 because it didn't look like a cruiser, had that iconoclastic engine and just looks right.

I have 2 RD 350's that serve the wild side and around town use and I certainly didn't was a full touring rig.

I will say that until I saw a pic of mine in an ad I had no idea that BMW produced these bikes, having raised a family and forgoing motorcycles until they were on their own.

I simply did not keep up with motorcycles - I devoted my dreaming and projects to cars.

Once I saw the pic I realized that it looked a lot profile-wise like the UJM's that I prefer and are starting to appear again.

So I discovered this board and that was it -  I was a goner...

As far as the gas caps go - meh...

If the don't have a lock and they really protrude I don't care for them.

I couldn't be happier.

My pardon TrueAce.

I was only responding to your post and others about why people seem to focus on K bikes a lot - that didn't mention gas caps either - have added to my post to stay within the guidelines.

And in return I expect you to do the same.

A little off topic, but all in good fun. Can anyone decipher what Old Man Laitch is doing in his new profile pic?

Laitch,
Are you doing a Vermont style Chuck Norris kick to your K75 lol? Perhaps you're kicking it because you ran out of Profiteroles.

How many bottles of Bourbon does it take to change a rear tyre?

That's Dewar's being used as an air-freshener, a solvent, and a lubricant for bystanders off-screen. I gave up on alcohol years ago when I realized it had failed to help make me the Second-most Interesting Man in the World, and Big-Booze wouldn't refund my investment.

How much is he selling them for sj2000? I know his website is in the "coming soon" stage. I have some of his other creations posted here already.

The price that he quoted for me, Mugello: 160 Euro, Misano $130 Euro + shipping. It is a little bit expensive but the details are awesome, last time he had the images in the facebook and showing the details, but I could not find the facebook anymore.

Looks like some type of partial attachment to a stock cap made of wood.
