Dear All,
After much agonising, with slight oil leak below the clutch housing I am attempting a main rear seal, doing replacement and spline lube. I am 6 hours in so far, ( but I am very slow and only have been able to do it in 3 two hour evenings so far. After much advice from this forum I dove in.....
Tips I have learned so far....
Buy seal removing tool and some rather Allen keys for a small socket set.
You can make a rear seal drift out of a 2/3 used roll of masking tape and a lump of 4 x 2
Your wife's nail polish can be used to mark clutch assembly
To remove the o ring in one piece pull back clutch assembly (not very hard) as far as it will go then twist antiockwise slightly. This snags the o ring on the thread of the shaft. Then give the clutch housing a tap back and hey presto, you can grab the o ring with a pair of thin nose pliers.
If the outer part of the clutch is engaged on a locating pin after removing the 6 bolts, don't give up. Keep tapping all round the housing and pulling it will come off. Just be patient, take a few breaks, better than breaking it.
On reassembledly stage now.....
