ABS1 differences?
« on: September 04, 2016, 08:29:25 AM »
Hi all!

Working on my K1100LT -93 that I bought with ABS-issues.

I've replaced the battery and done everything to the point that I've concluded that it is the Front ABS-modulator that doesn't work (did the dynamic test and got really bad readings from the modulator)
So in my attempt to replace it with an other modulator (from a k100rs 16v since I couldn't find a k1100 one) I noticed that the k1100 one has different size brake connections, probably an update after someone connected them wrongly on the old ones.

But I wonder, will the internals be the same? I.e will it work if I just changes the fittings on the brake lines?
Anyone knows? (It's the same diameter of the lines, but the bolt on one line is 12mm instead of 10mm).

The '90–'92 K100rs has the same part number for that ABS modulator as your K1100. The '89 and earlier K100RS number is different. What year was the donor bike manufactured?

1988 was the donor, I have made a new brake line with the smaller connection. Crossing my fingers and hope it will accept the older module.

Please give us an update with the result.

Okey, I can with a big smile on my face report that the 1988 modulator works in replacement of the 1993 one!
No more flashing abs-lights!

As stated there is two different connector sizes on the 1993 one but the diameter of the line itself are the same.
It's regular copper brake lines used on cars, so you can do it yourself or if you lack the tool get any autorepair shop to do one.
