Outgrown K75, Is K1200RS too heavy?

I've outgrown my K75S. After a 900 mile  ride, I realize I need more seat comfort also. I have been considering an R1150RT or maybe an R1100RT but I have a chance to buy a K1200RS for a very good price.  I'm worried about the weight of the 1200 though. Any thoughts on how the K 1200 RS rides?

The K1200RS/GT is a terrific bike. Handles great and a slightly lower seat height makes the bike not feel so top heavy. Lots of power. Great brakes. The stock seat is not that great but aftermarkets are available. Does not handle like a heavy bike. Sport bike riding position.

i was thinking about buying one also, and rode it last week.  After coming off a k75 the 1200rs did feel very heavy in steering the front end, especially at slow speeds in stop and go traffic, not sure if it was low tire pressure or just the nature of the beast. 

On the highway it pulls strongly, has a smoother shifter and definitely a sport bike seating position with weight and hands on the drops.  There is no throttle drag screw like the k75, so for long distance there would be no rest for the right hand.  It did feel heavy to me even though it has lots of power.  i was hoping it would be a bigger, more powerful sport touring version of the k75, but it felt more like a big heavy sport or race bike to me.  i have a ducati for track days and sport bike riding, so the didn't fit my needs.  If i could only have one bike then the 1200RS might be a good choice but it is more sporty than touring to me.  The k75 does everything well and is hard to match for overall riding.

i would be interested to hear your comparison also.

If it's just a better seat you want get a Russell Daylong.

I forgot the years but the later RS had factory cruise control. There's the Flying Brick-type K1200GT too which may be more relaxed in riding position.

Pretty much my assessment as well. I just rode it around the guys neighborhood to get a feel for how it maneuvers at lower speeds. (I think it's a given that it rides much better than the 75 on the highway.) Standing wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The first thing that hit me was the front end weight and steering differences. With the 1200 you have to actually turn the bars more than the 75. The front steering seems much more finicky/precise.  Not necessarily a bad thing, just notably different than the k75.

The k75 seems to almost steer itself with just leaning. The k1200rs seems more precise.  I didn't have a problem turning around on a dead end, though. If anything, it seemed like the k1200 had a tighter turn and the extra weight wasn't as noticeable as I had feared.

I guess my lingering concerns are the lower bar layout. My K75S has the wider "western" bars. I prefer a more upright position.  Can you get wider/taller bars for a K1200rs? The owner said they stock bars were as tall and wide as they go. Maybe aftermarket, risers?

It may be that I just need to get used to riding in a lower position more.  I do feel like an Amish school marm sitting bolt upright on the k75.

Type k1200rs risers into a Google search and you'll find plenty of modifications.

A mate went from a K75S to a K1200 RS. He preferred the 75 for the tight stuff and around town, but the 1200 was better for long highway distances with fast sweepers. I rode it a few times and came to the same conclusion as him, it was a bit of a barge in tight stuff . It had adjustable bars and two seat heights, I also think it would have been harder to access for maintenance compared to the K75S.

MV makes a set of adjustable risers. This allows you to move the bars up and down for different riding positions. They work great for long trips to reduce fatigue by varying your riding position and also to drop them for the twistys. They are pricey and do require a front brake line change. Not to be adjusted while in motion. Footpeg lowering kits are also available. A Russell seat is on mine as well.

The guy already has the adjustable pegs mounted. I may go entirely different route with an R1100RT.  That seems to be already set up like I prefer.  I love the K engines though....

I had an R1100RT-P as a loaner for a day. I got the full motoboxer experience, surging and all. It made me feel glad I went the motobrick route.

Did you consider a K75RT or K100RT?
