K100LT + Ural/DNepr sidecar
« on: September 03, 2016, 01:37:50 AM »
Hey Guys,

First time posting here. Thought I'd start a thread on a hack project I'm just starting out.

I will take delivery of a 1988 K100LT and I will be adding a Dnepr sidecar I have sitting in my shed.

Hopefully it wiill be something interestong to follow.

I will keep it with motorcycle wheels and tires with no leading links so a lot of tinkering to get it to ride well.

The first question I have is what wheel to use on the sidecar and how to solve the brakes. Will use a K-bike wheel but rear or front? How to solve the disk brake without modifying the rear brake hydraulics on the tug. Anyone have experience?

Hey, PhunkT, welcome! Only a few K sidecar folks have come out of the closet so far, check out the topic for side cars on the Home page. Very cool original Dnepr you got. Let's see some close up.pictures.

The Dnepr itself got turned into a cafe racer, now the sidecar is left. So I turned something that was designed as a sidecar rig into a solo rig and now will turn something that was not designed as a sidecar rig into a sidecar rig  :hehehe

Will add more photos once the project gets going. And ask a lot of more and less stupid questions. I'll probably ride the K as solo until winter and then start the conversion.

OK, but I feel sorry for showing it in such a bad condition :)

The car is actually in a pretty good condition, been sitting for the past 30 years or so.

It will get a BMW wheel, a disk brake system, a fender better suited to the K-bike's square-ish style, a roll-over bar, seatbelts (a lot of confusion wether it makes the rig safer for the passenger, will need to make a decision as it will be a family ride), a front bumper with some big lights for night driving, new shock and luggage racks for long-haul travel.

The project is due to be finished in 2018, but I doubt I will have the patience to do it that long... probably be riding it next summer  :riding:

Included is a picture of what happened to the original tug (was turned into a far-from-original chopper before I got my hands on it, so don't shoot me for ruining a nice 1973 Dnepr K650 :).
