K100 speedo sensor grommet.
« on: August 28, 2016, 08:55:48 PM »
Afternoon/Evening/Morning;

I have a little grommet (That's what all the girls tell me) on the cable for the speedo sensor, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it's meant to push in to.

The rear caliper is currently M.I.A, so perhaps it has a tang into which it pops?

If anyone can elucidate, it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks!

Also;

About where does the vent pipe for the fuel overflow (The wee box thing) terminate? Does it just hang out inconveniently betwixt rear mudguard and swingarm?

Thanks again!

There should be a bracket on the front caliper mounting bolt that the grommet pushes into. And you can now get surgery for the small grommet problem.

This is what happens on my K75 and there's nothing inconvenient about it.

Thank you most kindly, gentlemen.

Martin;
I had my suspicions that it was to fit into the caliper, from a vague recollection. I gave it away to someone around 15 years ago. I shall attempt to procure a new unit this week. Thanks for clearing it up.

Laitch;
The termination of your pipe looks as convenient as one could hope, and so I shall route it down through there when I get the rearsets back on. That makes a lot more sense than passing it past the swingarm. Thanks.

On Oz bikes we don't have a fuel overflow pipe we have a small plastic reservoir that clips to the frame the vent and overflow go into this. I can't seem to find it in parts fiche but will post if and when I find it.

It is item # 5 and is called the Air Accumulator. The pipes on the underside of the tank go directly into it no need for hoses, question is this peculiar to OZ or do some US or UK bikes have this.

We can get them here, Martin. It's a cute little thing by the look of its photo. 2.56USD It'd make a great stocking stuffer or party favor.

So cute I'm thinking about naming her. And you save on hoses to boot, win win. Must go find a palm tree to ponder her name. And don't you ever sleep, I thought I was the only one.

That's the fellow, an 'air accumulator'. Sounds far more technical than a 'wee box thing', those BMW technicians are undoubtedly worth their salt.

I've got a hose leading out from the bottom of it, t'was that one I was wondering about.

Below is a picture of the clamp and how it orients regarding the wire and the brake caliper. I can't tell if you're missing the clamp or not. Are you? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about and a few links to help guide you if you're still looking.

Jay, thanks very much for the pictures, that's exactly what I was wondering about.

I've got the wee clip somewhere, I'm sure, just no caliper at present!
