Brake pads what are you using.
« on: August 26, 2016, 08:46:51 PM »
I can get Brembo rotors from the UK but I am now chasing pads that are easy on the rotors, I don't mind changing pads all the time. I was running Metal Gear rotors & pads LK1163 but are wearing so switched SBS 506HF ceramic. I have tried EBC rotors with EBC organic pads and they really destroyed the rotors in short time. I don't tend to use the rear unless it's an emergency.

I am using Volar kevlar organic pads on my three bricks.  You need to use squeal stop with them, but they stop good, hold up fairly well(over 12,000 miles on my K75RT and still going strong), and don't seem to be too hard on the rotors.

About $18 on eBay for 6 pads to do all three calipers, front and back.

you need to use squeal stop with them,

I just picked up a similar set on Ebay this week.  Do you put the anti-squeal on the back / metal face of the pad and/or on the edge of the metal portion?

A thin smear of Kopper Kote on the back of the pads I also put a very thin smear on the pins and spring.

I ended up ordering a set of discs from Motorworks UK fully floating, but couldn't decide on pads. So seeing as they were EBC's I emailed them and received this answer in less than a day. Can't complain about the service. Thanks Gryph for the offer but I will try the EBC pads and monitor them very closely.
Regards Martin.

Hi Martin, in the past we have made this disc from Cromwell stainless -3cr12 which didn’t get hardened. This means that if you use a sintered pad wear rates could be very high especially when the bike is fully loaded. The answer to the wear problem is to use a softer organic pad but then you lose the heat handling and wet weather characteristics of a sintered pad.
Now though we use a hardened 420 stainless for the rotors which is fine with sintered pads and has much better wear characteristics although touring with a heavy load is always going to be hard on brakes.
So if disc life is important then try the organic or our semi sintered “V” pad. If performance is the priority then stick with the HH pads. either way disc life should be better now.

Kind regards
Mike Cooper
