I'm trying to get the OEM heated grips off of one K75 to install them onto a K75 that has aftermarket heated grips. The PO ran power to the aftermarket grips from fuse #4 which is marked as 'Steckdose' -- which is the accessory plugs. He added an additional inline fuse between the fusebox and the console switch. There doesn't appear to be any ground running to the console switch. From the switch, there are two wires running to the left and right heating element respectively. I'm not sure how that would work -- that is a three-way switch, so only one of those things is going to be on at a time. But that's irrelevant since I've removed those grips anyway.
I've removed the OEM switch assembly from the donor bike. The switch gets power and ground from a connector protruding from the harness under the tank. It looks like either the harness sheathing had to be cut to expose the switch or it was cut into to splice the switch in. I'm assuming the ground regulates the low-power setting at the switch. On the target bike, there's no such connector, unless it's hidden under the wrapping around the harness and I don't want to cut into that unless I know there's a connector under there.
So my first question is: Does every K75 have that OEM heated grip connector under the tank, or was that added when the OEM grips were installed?
The second question is, might it not be advantageous to use the PO's existing wiring (see pic) for power and get the ground somewhere else? And if so, where? There are a lot of brown ground wires exposed to tap into.
I'm no electron wizard, so any suggestions are appreciated.
