Sprag clutch
« on: July 18, 2016, 09:14:53 PM »
Hi everyone.
Been searching the pages for ages. Great site for info. Picked up a 90 K100  a while back and other projects have stalled it's progress.
Finally getting around to it.  Another cafe racer but hopefully I have saved an old BMW from the wreckers as well...so that is a good thing.
The Bike had been sitting for a few years...Yes...with petrol still in the tank. :nono
The owner had it for 20 odd years before parking it up.  So the fuel pump is cactus and the rubber mount is cactus.
I knew it had issues with the fuel pump and the sprag clutch...which from all my searching is not uncommon..
Yesterday I got into it and after much swearing at the German's for using those torx bolts in the housing i got at the sprag.
too my surprise it seems not too bad.  I have certainly seen many posts of ones with a lot more crud built up in there.
After soaking it overnight and giving it a good clean I am hopfully looking for someone to give me the thumbs up to continue....lol. Be a nightmare to get it alllllllll back together and then it is not working.  hard to tell in photos I understand.
Also I have searched a lot but can't quiet find a definite answer...
I am looking to swap in a 92 GSXR front end...mainly because I have one in my shed and think there would be some good gains in Braking power and suspension.   I am sceptical about clearances for the clip ons with the K tank.  If anyone knows someone who has done the swap successfully would put a few demons to rest as well.  Thanks in advance and thanks for all the informative posts within the forum.
