K 1 fuel pump
« on: July 09, 2016, 02:31:46 PM »
1991 BMW K1
The bike has been in storage for 7 years.
Gas was solidified.
Cleaned everything out and replace with a new Fuel pump and filter.
I just reinstalled my gas tank that I had painted.
Took the bike out for a 10 mile run, everything was ok.
The next day I went to start her up and no luck. The fuel pump is not activating.
Removed the pump and it works just fine when 12v power is applied.
No power at the yellow and black wire at the pump.
No power at the plug connection underneath the tank
All the fuses are ok.
From Max's micro fiche is looks like there is a fuel pump relay in the fuse box.( item number 13 )

Before I spend $20 does anyone have any other ideas?

Is the + wire to the pump really yellow/black--it shows as green/white on the schematics for other K bikes, and comes from fuse 6 to the 4-pin connector to the tank.  Maybe K1 is so much different?

Sorry, i was looking at the harness wire colors.  Do you have a five terminal relay from one of your other bikes to swap out?

My wife says that I am brain dead. Starting to believe that.
After tracing all the fuel pump circuits I realized that the bike was on the center stand and the side stand was down also. I retracted the side stand and the K1 fires right off.
Duh 😞

That's not brain death, Don. That's an example of timely self-actualization in less that 24 hours!
